About

Trung Nguyen, a Professor (Education and Engagement) of Management at RMIT’s Business School, holds a PhD in Management from Monash 91tv (Australia), a Master’s in the Economics of Development, and a Bachelor’s in Foreign Trade. He further expanded his expertise through executive education at Wharton Business School (USA). Trung teaches leadership in the digital age, economics, and the political economy of global business. As the Head of a large department, he leads seven business majors/programs, including the MBA.

His research focuses on international business, management, and leadership in digital and smart transformation. As co-leader of RMIT’s APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub, Trung engages in collaborative research and supervises PhD students—having supervised three to completion and overseeing several ongoing projects. He is among the inaugural research fellows of the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute (AVPI). Trung has published in high-ranking journals such as the Journal of Business Research and the Journal of Asian Public Policy. His work also features in prominent regional platforms, including the 91tv of Melbourne’s Asia Link and the Australian National 91tv’s East Asia Forum. His contributions have earned him the RMIT PVC Award, the College Research Excellence Award, and a Merit Certificate from Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

Beyond academia, Trung advises local governments on digital strategies and consults for organisations such as KPMG and VinaCapital. He regularly speaks at and chairs major forums, including the HCMC Economic Forum, and participates in regional conferences hosted by ASEAN and the World Bank. A co-founder of initiatives such as the APAC Smart and Sustainable Cities Forum, the Global Business Forum, and CEO Talks, he connects industry and policy. As a seasoned trainer, Trung has co-led programs for major organisations including Vietnam Airlines, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Trung has demonstrated effective leadership as Head of the Management Department at RMIT Vietnam, overseeing both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in management and business. He is dedicated to attracting and developing talent, fostering learner success, and building strong, diverse, and trust-based teams. Under his leadership, the department excels in teaching, engagement, and applied research—advancing RMIT Vietnam’s role in education, research, and industry collaboration, all aligned with Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals.
