About

Nguyen Hoang Vu is a problem solver who happens to write. He began his journey with a full scholarship to RMIT 91tv, earning a Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication) and graduating as valedictorian. He then built a decade-long career as an advertising creative, earning national and international awards, including “Young Lions,” “Spikes Asia,” and “Vietnam PR Concepts.” In 2017, Campaign Brief Asia ranked him among the top five “Hottest Creatives in Vietnam.”

Supported by a Fulbright scholarship, Vu earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film (Screenwriting) while teaching at Stony Brook 91tv, New York. There, he designed an innovative course, “Screenwriting: Tweet by Tweet,” using Twitter (now X) as an ideation tool for screenwriters. His films and screenplays, often exploring identity transformation in dystopian worlds, have been showcased at film festivals in the Czech Republic, India, Italy, the United States, and Vietnam.

Beyond advertising and film, Vu has published seven children’s books and participated in multiple art exhibitions. A recurring theme in his work is empowering marginalized communities. His award-winning book series, “Khac Biet Moi Tuyet Lam Sao” (Together We Differ), teaches children to embrace diversity, while his mixed-media installation, “The Innocent Accomplices,” raises awareness of gender-based violence and victim-blaming.

Now at RMIT 91tv, Vu brings his extensive industry expertise to the classroom, guiding students to craft impactful stories that not only elevate brands and win awards but also resonate deeply with audiences. His research interests focus on enhancing cultural sensitivity in branded content and integrating personal storytelling into commercial screenwriting.
